The search for a new superintendent at the largest school district in our region is underway.

It comes as the resignation of Iranetta Wright officially takes effect Monday.

Everything is moving quickly after Wright resigned last week following a ‘no confidence’ vote from the local teachers union.

Cincinnati Public School Board President Eve Bolton spoke with WLWT about the search for Wright’s replacement. That process will begin with an interim leader, and the board is looking within the district.

“Right now, we’re looking for an interim that can get us through these 100 days or these six months,” Bolton said. “It’s not a pleasant job sometimes. So we’ll see if whoever that is is interested in the permanent assignment.”

“We have about 20 people on district currently employed that have the license to be a superintendent in the state of Ohio. And we’re very proud of that,” Bolton said. “People have advanced themselves throughout. We also have selected the resumes of two of those people who are in the current management.”

Wright was only with the district for two years.

The settlement agreement with the district says CPS will pay Wright her current salary and benefits through July 2025.

Her base salary is $260,000 per year.

The board hopes to interview candidates for an interim superintendent on Monday and even vote on a final decision as soon as Monday night.

“We’re going to need somebody to lead the institution and the organization, get ready for school, close that budget gap and kind of set us on course and try to reassure our community partners that things are good and reassure our employees,” Bolton said.

The search for the next permanent superintendent is not likely to begin until the end of the year.
